Support for local academy council governors

As a local academy council governor, you are an essential and valuable part of the academy community. To ensure you can fulfil your role as best you can, we offer lots of support, whether you are brand new to the role, or have been working with us for some time.

This includes:

  • A local academy council governance handbook
  • A bespoke training module on becoming an effective new governor, through Governors for Schools
  • A free account with the National College, where you can access a multitude of webinars and modules on a wide range of topics related to school governance
  • Safeguarding training on the National College website (mandatory for all local academy council governors)
  • GDPR training – a single page briefing (mandatory for all local academy council governors)
  • Bespoke training delivered by senior leaders on a range of topics, specific to the education sector
  • Complaints panel training
  • Student behaviour committee training
  • Recordings of all training delivered by trust staff, available for you to watch at any time convenient to you
  • Access to the local academy council governance officer for the trust, to chat through any issues or answer any queries, at any time
