Northern Education Trust is delighted to continue its support of The Sick Children’s Trust as its nominated charity, and has raised a magnificent £3,115.80 this year through various activities within academies.
The Sick Children’s Trust believes keeping families together significantly improves the recovery of seriously ill children. They provide free, high-quality ‘Home from Home’ accommodation, as well as emotional and practical support, to families with sick children in hospital in the UK. They are working towards a future where every child can be close to their family while undergoing treatment.
They have ten ‘Homes from Home’ across the country (covering Newcastle, Leeds and Sheffield in the North), which provide essential services for up to 147 families every night, 365 days a year. This provides comfort for families during the difficult time that their child is in hospital. The charity supports around 4,000 families every year across its ‘Homes from Home’. 99% of families that stay state that having a private room close by the hospital was beneficial for their child’s wellbeing and recovery, as well as helping them cope with the strain of having a seriously ill child in hospital.
Northern Education Trust’s academies raised funds through various activities this year, such as cake sales, Christmas jumper/non-uniform days, raffles and Easter/summer fairs, and one brave primary student who volunteered to cut her hair for the charity.
Rob Tarn CBE, Chief Executive of Northern Education Trust said: “We’re very pleased to be able to support the work of The Sick Children’s Trust to make a difference to the lives of children in hospital and their families. Everyone’s kind donations means they are able to give more families the emotional and practical support needed during times of huge uncertainty when a child is seriously ill in hospital by giving them a place to stay just minutes from their child’s hospital bedside.”
Vanessa Buckley, Head of Fundraising at ‘The Sick Children’s Trust, said: “We are thrilled that Northern Education Trust has been able to support us in such a brilliant way, raising vital funds for our ‘Homes from Home’ so they can continue to support families with a seriously ill child in hospital in the best way possible. Their academies have gone above and beyond in their efforts, finding creative ways to raise a wonderful total that will really make a difference to families at the most difficult time. A huge thank you to everyone at Northern Education Trust for your wonderful support.”
