News, events and information from The Northern Education Trust
Ofsted carried out an inspection of Northern Education Trust The Blyth Academy on 6 and 7 July 2021, following their remote inspection in February. Inspectors found that “leaders are passionate about making a difference to the lives of pupils” and concluded that the overall effectiveness of the school has increased to GOOD.
Inspectors found that The Blyth Academy is an improved, well-led school where the Principal has high expectations of staff and where all staff have high expectations of students. The inspectors said that through working together, leaders and teachers have created a calm, productive environment where learning can take place effectively. The positive relationships students create with their teachers at The Blyth Academy ensures students enjoy their lessons and work hard, which the inspectors recognised during their visit.
The Trust are delighted to note that inspectors found that staff and those responsible for governance share a vision of students having opportunities to succeed in adult life. The inspectors said, “Leaders at the school, supported by the wider multi-academy trust they are part of, have redesigned the school’s curriculum,” allowing students to benefit from consistency within teaching and learning, and ultimately improve their outcomes and life chances. They also noted that there is an improved culture of reading, with teachers being passionate about its importance, and students understanding why reading is so important.
Donna Park, Principal, said: “I am extremely pleased Ofsted inspectors have acknowledged the productive culture of learning we have established at The Blyth Academy, and recognised the passion that staff have for improving the life chances of their students. We are really proud of the new, improved curriculum recognised by inspectors, as staff can stay focused on providing quality teaching and learning to ensure each one of our students can achieve and that the whole academy is working towards the same goal.”
Andrew Jordon, Executive Principal, added: “We are delighted with the outcome of the Ofsted report at The Blyth Academy, for the students, staff, parents and the local community, and the recognition of the incredible hard work that has gone into making The Blyth Academy a GOOD school. This is an exceptional achievement, and the first time that the school has been judged GOOD. What this means for the students and their aspirations moving forward, and the local community, cannot be underestimated.”
